THE ROH CHAMPIONSHIP BELT EXTREME MAKEOVER

First, I swear to god if any single one of you spoil the Big Bang in the comments sections (who am I kidding, no one comments) I will go Kevin Steen crazy on you (nutshot, chairshot, tender kiss).

I sadly had to spend time with my stupid family, who I did say I was going to abandon to watch the Big Bang, but guilt washed over me like a goblet of Gangrel's blood and here I am pleading you to keep results to yourself. I gotta wait until Tuesday to see it, and let me tell you, staying off of Twitter, wrestling blogs, news sites, ROH's site, EVEN FACEBOOK because I have ROH on there, etc. has been a Mortal Kombat TEST YOUR MIGHT thus far, and it's only been one day. I almost go to these sites just by habit, like some kind of nerdy conditioning I've done to myself. I need shock therapy (I almost called it Shockmaster therapy, but that's a joke that doesn't even come close to making sense).

SO, in order to keep my sanity (because apparently all I do is come on here and think/write/read about wrestling), I've been drooling over the now fully-completed set of ROH's new Championship belts - thanks to Steve for pointing me in this direction (credit to you for this entire post). Take a look and try and tell me you wouldn't want any one of these pinching your love handles (photos are all courtesy of All Star Championship Belts, who made the actual belts):

RING OF HONOR
WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

RING OF HONOR
WORLD TELEVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

RING OF HONOR

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

These belts look like updated old-school NWA belts to me (and other 80's belts), and I mean that in the BEST way I could ever mean. The flags on the World Title are very reminiscent of the NWA World Championship belt, and even the "Hogan '86" WWF World Championship. Current WWE World Title belts do nothing to acknowledge that more than one country makes up the World.

I am a big fan of these new designs. Can't wait to see them up close and in person at an ROH show.

And now, to round out this Championship Belt post, here are some of my favourite pictures of shirtless sweaty dudes holding shiny things (and some of my favourite old school belt designs):

Magnum T.A. with a belt that's almost as wide as it is long. Kinda like his moustache.

Roddy Piper holding the old NWA US Title. This may be the purest, most genuine moment of joy ever photographed. I love this picture.

Dr. Death and Terry Gordy holding both the NWA and WCW Tag Team Titles. Epic.

Brian Pillman holding the WCW Light Heavyweight Title before it was replaced by the Cruiserweight belt. The colours in this entire picture are awesome.

Owen Hart holding the USWA Unified World Title. The belt is such a strange shape and colour, but I like it and this picture.

This is just a hilarious picture.

All of these photos (minus the Magnum T.A. one) are from Reggie Parks' Championship Belts, who is responsible for every truly classic championship belt design. He also makes some awesome customs, which you can check out here. But it's more fun to show the most bizarre pictures I could find on there. Like these (click the picture if you can't read the belt):

NOT-SO-SPOILER-FREE PREVIEW
Eddie Edwards, as mentioned before, is now the ROH World Television champion. But seeing the entire tournament in itself is something I've been looking forward to for awhile, especially Eddie's matches. I'll have to wait until Thursday for it to surface on YouTube, but if you have HDNet you should most definitely be tuning in to ROH tonight.

Apparently there is some other wrestling going on tonight as well.

ROH : THREE THINGS TO GET EXCITED ABOUT RIGHT NOW

I could think of more than three, but these here things just popped into my fanboy brain today:

NUMBER ONE
EDDIE EDWARDS - ROH WORLD TELEVISION CHAMPION

ROH crowned their first-ever TV Champ last weekend, and it was settled in a Partner vs. Partner: Who's the Hungrier Wolf?!" tournament final, pitting American Wolf Eddie Edwards vs. AMURRICAN WULFFF Davey Richards. Eddie TAPPED his own partner to walk away with the gold (blue).

Eddie was certainly not favoured to win once the brackets were announced. Many predicted a Steenerico final, others predicted Kenny King, some even predicted Delirious. I really can't think of anyone who had Eddie pegged from the start - and I am happy to see him earn some clout in singles action.

Eddie Edwards is a star in the making and he is doing it in the shadow of the unstoppably awesome Davey Richards. I am really excited to see Eddie with the belt and hopefully defend it sometime soon, which brings me to...

NUMBER TWO
UPCOMING CARDS ARE STACKED

ROH has five events coming up, and all of them are shaping up to be winners. I'll be in Mississauga (Davey/Omega II & and Fans Pick the Stip Main Event), there's also the Michigan show the night before (Crazy six-man: Black/Briscoes vs. Hero/Wolves), then there's the MASSIVE WrestleMania Weekend shows, and to cap it all off there's The Big Bang LIVE on iPPV that's been sold as a MUST-SEE event.

I will do anything Jim Cornette tells me to do, so you better believe I'm paying the (dirt cheap) twelve bucks or whatever it is (six if you split with a buddy!) to get this on GoFightLive.

Scroll down to see how these cards are filling out (quite nicely), and scroll even further to see the Big Bang iPPV banner at the bottom of the blog.

NUMBER THREE
SARA DEL REY
Photo: Scott Finkelstein's Get Lost Photography

I've seen Sara Del Rey before. But now I'm getting the feeling I haven't seen her enough.

Today, from both ROH's Twitter and Sara Del Rey's Twitter (complete with a sweet article here), I saw more from her than I have in what feels like too long of a time. See here:

Maybe I don't watch enough Shimmer (I... I haven't seen really any... so, yeah), but Sara Del Rey is awesome. She is a female wrestler with (gasp) something to say! Which is somehow shocking in this day and age. Most female "wrestlers" today spend their TV time cuddling up to Z-list celebrities. Del Rey tells it like it is, and now, more than ever, I just want to see her beat the hair extensions off some bitches week after week.

FOURTH BONUS REASON TO BE EXCITED
ROH INTRODUCES DOWNLOADABLE DVD SITE

Literally JUST saw this so it deserves to be included.

Ten dollars is super cheap to own some of the best wrestling on the planet. Holy nuts.

To cap it all off, here are those cards I promised. Wish I could be at more of these than just Mississauga:

ROH TV TITLE: RED BLUE HERRING!

Yesterday Kyle Durden tweet'd a picture of himself holding the ROH TV Title - or so we thought! WE BEEN DUPED.

From Durden's Twitter, just now:

"Brought to my attention that people believe the everything they see on the internet....that was NOT the real ROH TV title lol. Keep waiting."

A lot of people (er, a handful of message boarders) were hyperventilating at the sight of the ad-clad, primarily blue TV Title. If you haven't seen "it," here it is.

It's allegedly a belt on loan from the company that was hired to make it - sure does explain that there wasn't any sign of the ROH logo on the gold.

I actually wasn't even bothered by the look of it - even with the ads, I was kinda excited. I even liked the blue, 70's-style design.

...maybe my fanboy colours run a little too deep.

WWE postponed a house show that was set to take place tonight in Philadelphia, presumably due to the weather, but ROH is ready to pick up where they left off - by offering free admission to anyone showing their WWE ticket at the door. Neat!

WHAT I MISSED WHILE I WAS BARFING

Oh gad. I just spent the last day puking my guts out. I think I ate me a rotten jalapeno popper. Not a good time.

So, to catch up, here's what I missed while I had my head buried in the toilet:

MONDAY NIGHT RAW
WISHED I WAS BARFING

I actually got to see RAW before the barfing got underway. It, aside from Cena's promo, was borrrrring. But that doesn't matter since I (and a ton of other people) will be ordering the Rumble anyway.

ROH TV TITLE TOURNAMENT
BRACKETS FILLED IN

No Roddy or Tyler makes sense to me, and had Kenny Omega not been in Japan, maybe he could've fit in. Either way, this tournament should be exciting to watch. I can't see it being a Steen/Generico final, makes sense for them to save their match for a little longer down the road (plus they don't really need the title for their feud). I could easily see Kenny King or even Eddie Edwards winning - but I'm not sure.

SANTINO MARELLA

WHOA: ROH USHERS IN TV TITLE WITH TOURNAMENT

YAY.

This is so sweet. It's been talked about for so long, and to see it actually happen is really cool. I'm not sure who'll win it, or even who'll be involved - but why don't I speculate anyhow?

Here are the announced names for the TV tapings on February 4th and 5th, which is when the tournament will take place:

Tyler Black; Roderick Strong; The American Wolves of Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards; Kenny King; The Kings of Wrestling: "That Young Knock Out Kid" Chris Hero & Claudio Castagnoli; Erick Stevens w/ Prince Nana; Delirious w/ Daizee Haze El Generico; Steve Corino; Kevin Steen; The Dark City Fight Club; The Necro Butcher; “Addicted to Love” Rhett Titus and “Skullkrusher” Rasche Brown

And here's my guess/hopes of who will be the eight men filling in the brackets:

Tyler Black
Roderick Strong
Davey Richards
Eddie Edwards
Kenny King
Rasche Brown
Necro Butcher
El Generico

Actually I have no clue. Delirious could easily be in there too. I'm just thinking of guys who get pushed on TV a lot.

Can't wait to see how this plays out, and what it could mean for future shows. It's great that ROH will be able to have another way to turn a regular singles match into a BIG time match.
